BODA BODA EMYOOGA SACCOS IN KAPCHORWA RECEIVE MOTORCYCLES.

A total of Eight (8) Brand New Motorcycles were officially handed over to Boda Boda SACCOS from Kapchorwa Municipality and Tingey Constituency on Friday 17th February  in a function that was graced by the ‘Blue eyed girl of the President’ and National Coordinator for the Emyooga Program,Mrs. Ritah Namuwenge.

The hand over was done at the Resident District commissioners office in Presence of the Team from Microfinace Support center, RDC Kapchorwa District, Mr Lotem Linos Timkori, Kakai Fiona the Easter region Coordinator for Emyooga Program, Secretary  for gender and social services Kapchorwa Municipality Mr.Kwemboi Kenneth who represented Mayor Kapchorwa Municipality Mr. Andrew Timothy Mnagusho and Representatives From Centenary Bank,Kapchorwa Branch.

 “The idea to buy Motorcycles is as a fact that operators who have been buying motorcycles on Loan have been doing so at a very high interest rate; Motorcycles with Kenyan number plates which could not allow them operate freely. We also borrowed a leaf from the Bukwo Taxi operators who purchased a Taxi using the fund”-Geoffrey Sande, Emyooga Desk Officer Kapchorwa.

Mrs. Ritah Namuwenge said they were in Kapchorwa to concretize and see the fruits of Emyooga program whose objective is to transform the lives of Ugandans living in a subsistence economy commonly known as ‘Hand to Mouth’,to a money economy, she went ahead to thank the SACCOs that have actualized the objectives of Emyooga Program.

Mrs. Ritah went ahead to applaud the president for the good initiative for Job and wealth creation and ended her speech by encouraging the Boda Boda operators to save as the Motorcycles would depreciate with time and that the savings would enable them buy more motorcycles, she also pledged to work with other ministries to ensure that the Motorcycles were Insured.

Mrs. Ritah Namuwenge sits on one of the Brand new motorcycles shortly before handing them over.

 “The people of Kapchorwa are very hardworking people, I really want to thank them for even despite the challenges we had along the way, they were still patient with us, The spirit of saving is growing and those who are still hesitant should improve because they affect others. We’ve started to put in security measures to protect these motorcycles and this includes engraving”Mrs. Kakai Fiona.

Microfinance support center and Centenary Bank pledged to teach them financial literacy to ensure they have a positive cash flow so that they can meet basic obligations (needs) and also remain with surplus money to save for investment to create wealth

The whole idea is to fulfill the 4th Pillar of the NRM Manifesto of social economic transformation with the objective of causing a paradigm shift from hand to mouth to a money economy through Emyooga using the Bobda Boda transport service industry.
