
Joshua Kipurui Cheptegei hails from Eastern Uganda, Kapchorwa district he is a Ugandan athlete born on 12 September 1996 is one of the Ugandan long-distance runner winning gold medals back to back.
The super athlete, Cheptegei, was born on 12 September 1996. The long-distance runner grew up in Kapsewui, Kapchorwa District.

Education
From his childhood, sports and games were his passion. During his early school, he played football. Despite having football his first choice, Cheptegei later switched to long jump and triple jump.
Eventually, he believed that he could taste the fruit of success in the field of running.
Cheptegei was not only good in sports. He was studious too. He is a lover of literature. Therefore, he obtained a degree in Bachelor of Education (B.ed) from Bugema University.
Furthermore, Joshua is also an employee of Uganda University and was coached by Addy Ruiter.
Before being professional, he represented his University for the World Cross Country Championships, where he bagged the gold medal. His coach Addy Ruiter perfectly gives him a coach.
Professional Career

Cheptegei started his professional career in 2015. He excelled at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing, accomplishing 9th position.
Furthermore, he also ran in Rio Olympics 2016 in the 5000 and 8000 meters race and accomplishing eight and sixth positions, respectively.
The Year 2018 was outstanding for him, where Joshua participated in the 2018 Commonwealth Games held in Queensland, Australia.
His performance was terrific at this event. He bags the gold medal at both 5000 and 10,000 meters races.
Besides this, Abrar Osman landed in the second position with 42:34. Furthermore, Muktar Edris becomes third with 42:56.
Cheptegei set new records in the year 2019. He won the senior men’s race at the 2019 IAAF Cross Country Championships in Aarhus, Denmark.
Records and Achievements:
In Valencia, Spain, Cheptegei made a new record of the 10 km Road Race; 2019. His time was 26:38, which is better than his previous records.
On 16 Feb 2020, Cheptegei set a new world record at a 5 km road race. Not to mention, the previous record was 13:22, which Robert Keter achieved in 2019 in France.
Later in 2020, Cheptegi made a new record in the 5000 meters with a time of 12:35:36. He manages to break the record of Kenenisa Bekele; the record had been set sixteen years before.
Cheptegi made the records by 2 seconds. After the race, Bekele congratulated Cheptegi through his Twitter account.
